Warm Up With a Virtual Tour of a Brazilian Coffee Plantation

Nescafé and Google transport consumers to a coffee plantation in VR

As we drip back into the new year, warm weather isn’t too far away. Do you want to be transported to the coffee plantations of Brazil? There’s an app for that. In September of last year Nescafé and Google Cardboard collaborated on a project that pushed the boundaries of virtual reality. Together the companies introduced the Nescafé 360˚ app.

Available on both iPhone and Android devices, the app allows consumers to experience a 360-degree view of Brazil’s coffee fields. Inside the app, three 3D videos showcase how Nestlé’s Nescafé Plan helps its farmers and network of suppliers achieve better quality coffee, higher yields and an increased income. You can stand side-by-side with the farmers who hand pick the red coffee cherries that eventually become the coffee you drink.

This partnership reveals how companies are lining up to leverage the power of new this medium to share experiences, capture attention and create value. Virtual reality is changing many industries. It is is ushering in a new era of transparency and possibility for companies. With this medium, companies can transport people to new places to discover, share information or tell exciting stories.

The project also has broader implications for everyday consumers, as it enables them to see and experience more.

Google Cardboard is relatively inexpensive. As the adoption of VR continues to expand there will be a narrowing of the “experience gap.” By using this elegant solution for connecting consumers to highly visual aspects of Nescafé’s core business, such as the sourcing of its beans, there is less ambiguity in how the company conducts operations. By enabling its customers to become immersed in a highly curated branded experience, the users get a first-person insight into this new terrain. By developing engaging content for these users and consumers, companies can unlock unprecedented levels of loyalty, interest and brand advocacy.
