Drones happen to be of particular interest to Intel CEO Brian Krzanich
Brian Krzanich’s penchant for drones could position the company as a leader in the high-flying space
There is a lot to say about how technology forces companies to adapt, but sometimes passion is the reason for progress. “I have to say, the 100 Drones project was triggered largely because of our CEO, who really wants to make sure that Intel plays a huge role in drone technology moving forward. You can already see the advances in drones in the last year alone,” shared Penny Baldwin VP, General Manager, Global Brand Management & Reputation at Intel.
Drone 100 is the epic collaboration created by Intel and Ars Electronica Futurelab that used airborne drones, powered by Intel technology to push the boundaries of what’s possible.
Whether the “drone play” makes him a hobbyist or a harbinger of change, Intel CEO Brian Krzanich is well known for leading the company with an open-minded approach to problem-solving. Over time, by listening to customers’ needs and making bold bets on the direction of the market, he has extended the company’s position in product innovation and technology leadership. These strategic moves have created billions of dollars in value for the company.
Krzanich delivered this year’s CES Keynote 2016 Speech, in which he spoke about a world where drones replace fireworks.
Through this project, Intel set a Guinness World Record for the most unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs, or drones) airborne simultaneously. The drones used Intel’s RealSense 3D camera technology to make sure that devices can dodge and navigate around objects, so you don’t have to worry about your drone crashing into anything.
“It’s just the beginning. I think the drone technology is going to evolve significantly,” says Baldwin, “That specific example was a reflection of a particular passion point on the part of our CEO.”
Based on the track record, this point of passion could integrate Intel further into the high flying and highly lucrative space as it becomes a technology company built on creating amazing experiences. Making a big bet on drones, doing extensive promotion at CES and bolstering the brand among young consumers across sectors are all indicators of Intel bracing for an extremely competitive future full of technological advancements.
